I'm trying to make a 5.0 HO out of a 1987 5.0 that has the "high swirl" heads, which suc. So my question is: Are they any other heads out there, besides aftermarket, that will compete with the E7? I have a pair of E5CA's and what I believe are E8 truck heads, Will any of these work well a stock HO cam? And one more thing.. What possible harm would be done by using A maf conversion kit with stock heads, stock pistons,HO cam, 70mm TB and egr spacer with matching typhoon intake? would updating to better heads round out the engine more. Kinda got stuck with the 70mm Thottle body.

The stock 5.0 motor in 1987 came with a 50mm throttle body with an engine compression of 8:5:1. I've been told the difference is in the heads and the cam and of course the larger TB. So the E5CE should work well. Will it raise the compression?

smaller non ho throttle bodies were 58 mm, same as the 86gt engine with the e6 heads. All other 5.0 ho's 87+ got 60mm from the factory. NON 5.0 ho engines likely got the 60, but at a minimum recieved the 58. there was no 50 mm throttle body for the 5.0 engine. the e5 head simply designates the 85 year. the 85 year HO mustang head (possibly the cfi head too? not sure on that) is near identical to the 87 head. it'll have virtually no hp differences.

You guys are thinking mustang.. this is 5.0 tech remember. The engine is out of a lincoln, so its pretty much a couger engine. It has a small TB with 14lb/hr injectors. Ford books list it as having a 50mm tb. Not that it matters cause now I have a 65mm. The heads look nothing alike. Set a e5 next to a e7 and look at the chamber style and volume. The e7 has 64cc the e5 looks to have much more volume hence lower comppression.

the exact number on my heads are e7te-pa. I measured the chamber volume using a hypodermic needle once the heads was on a level surface. So at best it was a ball park figure at 64 cc but thanks for the info.
