I recently completed the racecoupe (I will get pics when my friend 89greyLX helps me put them on here. This car is bad ass. It is very very fast. I love it and I am glad that I stuck it out over 3 1/2 years. It gets looks everywhere it goes.

Here is what fits on a 65 Mustang, by my experience.

302 331 stroker with Full Length Hooker Super Comp Headers and Victor Jr intake with 289 HiPo air cleaner - All fit with no mods to the inner fenders (headers) or to the hood (higher air cleaner). I really love the engine. I am not sure if I would go with a 393 or 427 351W stroker if I could do it again. The 331 has more power than 95 % of the average 351W strokers, it fits really well, and can rev to 7200 RPM www.mentaladdictionmotorsports.com It doesn't like to cruise under 2000 RPMs, so I am in a lower gear much of the time than I normally would be. It really is a kick in the ass at 3000 +

TKO 5 Speed - Tight fit. Your engine will tilt back a little bit, but it is not bad. Lots of cutting on the SFI scattershield with the headers and all (that baby is thick) Very worth it. I am revving at 2300 rpm or so at 70 MPH with 3.89s. It shifts nice, but I need some locktite on the hurst handle or something.

16x8 Wheels (vintage wheel works) - Very tight up front. Wheels in the front will come in contact with the upper control arms when there is no engine. With the car in running shape, there seems to be a lttle rub (though I can't SEE it) during full turns

Flaming River Steering Box 16-1 - Very very nice at speed. It takes some getting used to during slow driving. Parking is a pain in tight areas. It is not going to feel "modern", but it feels like it should.

Mustangs Plus Suspension - 620 springs, shelby a arm drop, 4 1/2 leafs, 1 in and 3/4 in sway bars, etc. - Very stiff and noisy on uneven roads (shouldn't really be on those). Absolutely awesome on the highway and on regular roads.

SSBC Manual Disc Brakes (all four wheels) - You have to be very descisive when braking, but they stop quite nice.

Currie 9 inch Trac. Loc rear end - Bigger, heavier, and stronger than the stocker 8 inch. Noisy during slow turns (mabye during fast turns, I have a loud exhaust). I seem to have no problems with it. I am confident that I needed it with my 475 FWHP 331 stroker.

TCP X Brace - I really like it with my subframe connectors. I am not sure if it is the brace or a combo of the brace and TKO tranny, but I could not use my X Pipe, which really sucked since I paid 250 bucks.

Exhaust - I had Master Muffler make me a 2 1/2 in dual system that run off of my 3 inch collectors on the headers (which you can see from a distance under the car from the side. COOL) I had the pipes run out the GT Valance. That is the only way to do it if you have the money. Nothing looks better as far as exhaust goes. Like I said earlier, I couldn't use the X Pipe due to lack of clearance, oh well.

4 Point Roll Bar - I really like it. It looks cool, and doesn't get in the way. You really can't put people in the back seat, and you really can not put them in the back if you have a cross bar for your 5 point harnesses (I love my Simpson harnesses). I have a removeable bar, but screw that. I now have a 2 seater. We did have to do mods to the rear interior metal (where the back window crank is). We had to cut it in half and make a hole, and weld it back together. It looks nice, though.

Stock Seats - Love the look. They aren't bad at speed if you connect the 5 point harness. You pretty much stay put.

Future Mods - 150 shot of Nitrous, NOS system. Not much else. I am about finished.
Next Project - Silver State road race 5.0 90-93 hatch with a turbo, 5 speed, who knows

good info about everything... xept I don't know how you figured that the 331 has more power than the average 393/408W. Even with crappy aftermarket heads and a mild cam/intake/exhaust 393s and 408s pull well over 500 at the fly. Of course, I'm a 351w owner, heh... but even I'll admit the 302 based strokers are probably better fits in a 65, 66. Thanks for the post.

There is a much easier way to cut the holes. You use a piece of PVC pipe and a drill with a hole saw bit.

Keep up the good work
