Haha yea, you're right. Satin black was my first instinct, anyway.

What if I do all black with a silver hood stripe and silver sail panels? Similar to this but different colors:

I don't think you'd get away w/ it. I think the above pic works because it's really still just a white car w/ a black'd out center on the hood. The "jump" you are asking about would have no continuity between the hood and sail panel.

Nik, in my honest opinion, the only black cars with stripes every made that didn't look out of place were the 71-72 chevelles that were black with red stripes. That's about it man.

I like your idea to keep it all black. My personal preference is to stealth-i-fy the contrasting trim and stripes w/ a flat black trim and stripe (or even a textured (like truck bed liner textured stripe maybe) for the sake of contrast.
I also like the grey stripe and trim version that you currently sport, but maybe w/ some different or darker hue closer to pewter or titanium to set it off. (different,..but the same)
Having a completely hot rod black hood, I can speak from experience though. It looks good for a week, but starts to lighten as it gets exposed to the sun. Washing and waxing the car becomes a matter of avoiding the flat-end out hood, as the wax makes it shine.
I found a wax that could be applied to the hood at the Emerald coast Cruizin that I went to last November, made by Mothers called Synwax. It brings back the black, but comes w/ a slight shine.
Just a FYI for you if you choose a flat black anywhere on the car.

You can maybe pull off a silver hood stripe but the sail panels is a no-no IMO. They need to stay black and stay the color of your window trim. Also speaking of window trim, you really need to do that along with the rest of the satin black so it all ties together. In my eyes the sail panels are part of the window sections.

Nik.... doesn't matter which way you go. Just make sure that the "GT" behind the doors stands out. That's the coolest part of the pre-'87 look to me.

Already planning on painting it red or silver, whatever contrasts the trim the best.

Well, when I paint mine, I am going away from the grey trim and two tone look. I think I like the single color better. The reason I would go with the murder it approach is that the trim tends to just look like it got faded instead of supposed to be that color.

I have to say, after seeing that white car in this thread, maybe I will keep mine white... I still think I like black much better though.

That white car is f**king pimp. Definitely keep your car white, paint the trim white, and leave the GT by the rear wheel black. Perhaps keep the headlights and grill black as well... I'd like to see both, but honestly that white car is one of the best looking fox-four eyes I've seen (next to 85's green car ).
