well i was searchin on ebay for a cai, since a cai is pretty much a basic for any performance mods. Even though the gains are minimal, gains are un deniable. Well i was lookin at them and i noticed a bunch of ebay sellers have their own brand of cai's. The more i looked at them i noticed they were basicly the exact same things as the mac and steeda kits. Does anyone have any opinions on these?

Could these ebay knockoffs really be any less quality, and could the gains be any less than the 200$ ones you buy from steeda, mac or bbk?

Gotta watch the MAF placement on those cheapo CAI's. Some have it in a bad spot.. my buddy ordered one for his S-10, and it moved the MAF to a spot right before a huge curve in the pipe.. never ran right and he ended up taking it out.

Looks like the Mac CAI. and I don't think the gains could be any less than the MAC

eh, I was thinking the same thing. I relocated the MAF on my MAC setup and the car felt a lot stronger. I guess you really have to be pissed off enough about how much money you spent on the thing to actually care about making it work for you, most people would pull it off and throw the stocker back in. Get a good kit, cheap kits are not worth it IMO.

There has been a lot of talk about:
http://tunableinduction.com/

My 2 cents.

Thing you have to watch out for with those cheap E-Bay ones is the quality and fitting. Could look real nice and chrome, but it may chip as soon as you try and put it on, or you have to modify something for it to fit. Just my $.02

My thinking has always been "You get what you pay for". But Good Luck!

You're thinking is incorrect, only a few CAIs will actually give you those minimal gains. A lot won't do anything at all, and some will harm.

www.tunableinductions.com as stated above will give you the best actual gains.

Let's not forget how much the shipping is usually jacked up on these so called "inexpensive" Ebay kits. $18-$45....pfffftttt, yeah right.

I'll sell you my MAC kit for cheap - I just have to find a part to re-install my stocker so I can resell my GT.

IMO - CAIs really open up the car and make it feel completely different. I know a bunch of guys around here tend to think otherwise, but it IS money well spent. I am putting a CAI on the next vehicle I buy.

I learned a bunch by listening to the veterans here.

1. CAI's will make the vehicle run lean. So you'll need a tune to actually net any gain from it.

2. The tubes are usually made of metal. That will actually retain any under hood temperatures and heat the air up. This is bad

3. for under $40.00 you can drop in a K&N and get the same results or even better. They even sell them at walmart

Yip, it's the bend before the Maf that skews with the reading.

Will one of those diablopredators tune the CAI correctly so that it doesn't run lean? And also, are you saying the plastic K&N intakes are better than like a JLT metal CAI?

Yes, a predator will do the job, or the SCT x2 as well. I like my predator. It serves it's purpose for a mostly stock engine. I noticed a huge improvement using their tune with 93 octane and advancing the spark in the 2-4K rpm range

Well, it's not that they're better or worse, it come down to spending $40 for a filter or $200 for an CAI kit. The first one nets you some improvement the second one is $160 more and maybe the same result or less. It comes down to personal preference. Just don't expect huge gains in performance with a stock motor.
