ebrake help needed (yes I searched)

After trying to go thru all the pages about this I still couldnt find enough info. I have just recently installed all 3 cables and a new set of rear brake cables on my 98 gt 5 speed. The brakes are fine but my ebrake doesnt grab til its almost all the at the top and the car still rolls. This will fail inspection where I live. Is there any adjustments that need to be made? I dont want to have to take this to a dealer if I can help it. Thanks.

remove the center console, looking down on the brake handle from the drivers seat, you will see a "latch" that acts as a stop on a small gear. move the handle up and down and you will see what i mean, this is the automatic adjuster, when there is too much slack the gear moves up a tooth putting the tension at a lower level.
take a small slotted screwdriver and while the brake handle is down, push the
small gear over to the next tooth.
dont make the brake tension too low because you will have a hard time putting the centre console back on!
