I was driving with a friend of mine in my 95 gt 5 speed and we were talking about some girl trouble he was havving...well we stopped at a light and a mitsubishi eclipse gts I am thinking a 1995 model pulled up next to me...the light turns green and I am just casually accelerating maybe 1/4 throttle and am right next to this guy for maybe 90 feet..then he pulls about a car length (I was giving my friend advice while this was going on so I wasn't really paying attention)...well my friend interrupts me by saying "this ricer boy is racing you Brian." I laugh for a moment, downshift to second and fly by pulling maybe 7 car lengths hitting about 70 mph and then backing off...My buddy later told me that at the light this guy had been revving his ricer and checking out my car..I thought the experience was pretty freakin hilarious.

Must've been a non-turbo one, the turbo ones are pretty close to us in performance. My sister's turbo Eclipse runs pretty close to mine but it does have 3" exhaust from the turbo back. It's surprised plenty of people. Including some dork in a riced out non-turbo one that thought his car was "all-that."

yes the gts is the non turbo version I just thought it was funny cause he thought he was the man when he pulled on me before I knew he was racing ...and then looked like a giant ass when I flew by

Happens to me all the time, probably due to the noise I make just taking off normally. They really get surprised when I really drop the hammer.

if it was a GST he wasnt racing. I raced a GST this weekend from a 5mph roll and only pulled 1/2 car on him, he had a CAI and 3" exhaust turbo back. So 7 cars is way over exaggerating. He wasnt the ricer, you were pulling that flyby on him, try racing him from an even roll and make sure he knows your racing.

I thought I saw GTS on the back of the car but I could be mistaken cause I was only behind him for a second and believe me hes was racing there was no mistaking it...and seven car lengths was not a exaggeration, granted he may have been a crappy driver. But I am no fool he was racing he just know when people are racing you especially when you hear them hit the rev limiter

the GTS model was not available in 95. The only models 95-99 were RS, GS, GST, and GSX. The GTS version was not available until 3rd gen eclipses came out, which you are correct is a non-turbo. You either raced a GS or an RS if it wasnt turbo.

had to be non-turbo, turbo models are a mid 14 second car stock.

Yeah i am actually an eclipse expert owned one for 2 years it was a 95 eclipse GST turbo, and yea i had a big G16 turbo, with a starion front mount intercooler, 620 injectors, walbro fuel pump, and best i ran with it was a 13.1 which is pretty decent ill admit, but the bad part is throughout the 2 years that i owned it other than i put about 3 grand in the car for turbo setup and everything but over all i dumped 24 grand into 3 new motors. They are f--ckin peices as far as reliability goes but they are decently quick i ran 14.7 stock which is pretty good but i am also a good shifter. if there is one thing ive learned in the past year i am a much smarter person now because i bought a mustang well actually 2 mustangs since the eclipse. MUSTANGS FOR LIFE

What kept happening to your motors? Did you keep getting crankwalk or something?

the gst's and gsx's are fast cars, the gsx's would take us off the line easily with the AWD, those cars can be made fast so easily. a boost controller an you got a mid 13 second car. my friend has a laser which is the same thing as an eclipse or talon an his car only has a boost controller an its pretty dam fast. ive seen so many of them **** on modded mustangs. its sad to say but they are fast cars. call me a traitor but ide drive a 1st generation eclipse or talon if they didnt break so much

I dunno about that whole mid 13s with a boost controller. Maybe low 14s. Cranking up the boost can only get u so far with the ****ty ass stock turbo set up. Boost will drop on the top end. Especially when that guy just said he had a bigger turbo and tons of other mods, and was going 13.1's. I doubt one mod is gonna get u mid 13s.

A friend of mine just put a EvoIII big 16G on his 99 spyder GST converted to GSX, and we race and are about dead even...he has a catback and still is runing stock boost on the bigger turbo untill he gets a new fuel pump and injectors then a downpipe and at that point i am just going to LOSE untill my turbo is in around aug. i hope. But even with the turbo i bet we will be about even Assuming he cranks his up and i keep mine in th 8-10psi range with stock H/C/I

So you think he will be running low 13's high 12's? I would think thats where you would be with a turbo/intercooler and your current mods.......even at 8-10 of boost

ive seen it done, i know people who ran their cars with only a boost contoller and exhaust an ran low 13s, remeber its awd, instant hook, an those stock turbos arnt ****ty either, they are pretty efficient.

I own a 90 gst and it's a mean little b!$*&. I have no doubt in my mind it would kick the crud out of my mustang. Don't get me wrong....I love my stang to death you cant beat the sound of a v8, but this turbo is just stupid fast. If your sitting at a light and some ricer is reving his engine, Just don't underestimate it or you'll be on the forums talking about how you didn't think Hyundai's were that fast!!!

if the ricer is revving his engine and has the power to beat me then I will hear the turbo as he revs...and really what I feel is the if it has to have a turbo to be fast it shouldn't be considered a sports car...now I now this may sounds a little biggoted but hey what can you do..if you slapped the same insane amount boost in your mustang there would be no contest with these damn eclipses...

That's great! I had a couple early 90's turbo talons. They were fun, but never lasted to long!
