ECU Exchange Outcome

Just wanted to post my experience in using ECU Exchange, after a recommendation from long time members of this forum. I have a 1973 Mustang Grande with a 1987 TBird 5.0 drivetrain swapped in to it. I’ve found this forum very helpful for the drivetrain questions; and the 71-73 Mustangs forum for the rest.

Well, while I seemed to resolve the basic starting and running issues, the car was still not running like I expected. I thought maybe if was just miles related, but after running through the scrips others here have created for these vehicles, I started to suspect the ECU just might have issues. So, I decided to send it in, and although it took longer than I thought, 7 working days, not 5 as stated in their ad, I got the outcome and shipping tracking number email. Here’s what they said:

“We have Good News; The tech finished the repair on your computer and Its now fully functional. Your computer will be cleaned and sealed for moisture intrusion before returning. We found your computer has an old power supply which is creating distortion on the reference and system voltages. There was also some small physical board damage that needed to be repaired. We replaced the power supply, capacitors and voltage regulators. The computer is now fully functional and running properly.”

I’m thinking it was a good investment in sending it in. So, thank you for the help. I’ll find out how much better it runs in a few weeks. Steve

You have to ship your ECU to them, so add that on the total price.
