So my ECU took a dump...It was an A9L and seemed to work well for a while. Anyone ever use the one for a 93 Cobra from Advance Auto Parts? They have them for $98 and I can't find a used A9L anywhere cheap to save my life. Let me know what you guys think....thanks

The Cobra computer uses internal calibration for 24 lb injectors instead of the 19 lb injectors that come stock on most 5.0 Mustangs. You would have to get a 19 lb sample tube for your C&L MAF. I haven't heard of any comments on how well the C&L and Cobra computer play together.

In a pinch you can use an A9P computer with no problems.

The cobra computer is a little different, as JR said.

Since you have a C&L you could use a Black cailbration tube, but you would still need to convert to the Cobra MAS, which is a F1SF part number. (I believe the 'F1' designates the year, same as a casting number, so any thing that is **SF should work)
Regardless of my year designation theories...
The parts store will be able to look up the correct MAS for that computer.

Buying a new MAS and new sample tube is the only way I can think of to gaurantee that your new setup will function correctly with the X3Z computer.

With that said, keep in mind that there is no performance advantage to swapping to the X3Z.
In fact the A9P may be the best performance wise, depending on where you want your timing.

Just my thoughts,
jason

I have a 19lb tube for my C&L. Would it work to run the Cobra ECU with my MAS with a 19lb tube in it? Thanks for the help.

I seriously doubt it, but just in case I will try to find the MAF Transfer curves and see how far off they are.

EDIT: Sorry, no chance that would work. The voltage output for the MASS of Airflow is way different between those 2 setups.

Keep in mind...

The MAF/MAS/Computer/Injector combination has to be pretty much dead on to work.

Mixing and matching parts like this would most likely lead to problems.

The recommendation I made above is about the only way you could get the X3Z into your car.
It may still be worth it over buying a higher priced A9* computer. Just be sure to factor in $30 for the Sample tube from C&L, plus the cost of the Cobra MAS.
