hey guys, i took my 98 cobra to a shop for a diagnosis on an issue i had and they told me the part number on my ECM (F8ZF12A650AED) was not the correct one and that this one (F8ZF12A650AEC) is the correct one. anyone know about this? does anyone know if this is true or not?

So i called ford up and they ran my vin and told me that the correct ECU for my car is F6ZF12A650AED. like i said earlier i have the F8ZF12A650AED in there (previous owner put it in the for some reason lol). Was wondering if i can keep that one that is in there instead of buying the correct one but reflash it to the correct ones standards?

hmm see Ford told me that the f8 is not for my vin lols. they are the ones that told me the f6 is the one that matches my vin lol what a mess.

looking up PCMs on older Ford's can take some time. You need the calibration code and then on the parts lookup there is a list of calibration codes you need to match up. On mustangs there arent that many, i think 15 for your year. You then pull up the list and it lists all the emissions components for that calibration code. It gets complicated on the Super Duty's there can be a few hundred calibration codes for them for a certain model year.
