In anticipation of my planned crate motor swap, I wanted to know if I could use the $20 Edelbrock 1405 600cfm carb I got from a guy at work. It was missing the choke plate and for some reason the guy he got it from removed the weighted secondary butterflies.
I asked about interchangability in another thread, but found out today that they are almost exactly the same. I thought the secondary bores would be bigger...they're not. The only difference I could notice was the primary side emulsifiers (I think thats what they are called) are a lot thinner on the 1405, effectively giving it more airflow.
Anyway, I bolted it on and once it got fuel to the carb, it fired right up and idled. Took it for a couple spins and it works great! I think it'll be good on the new crate motor until I decide to go with fuel injection.
