Guys be advised the Edelbrock E-Street heads are experiencing valve spring breakage, which Edelbrock tech, Ron attributes to users running Hyd roller lifters. I have a set of the heads not installed yet. I found out about the problems by a post on the Corral. After discussing this with Ron at Edelbrock, he informed me the heads are not to be run except with hyd flat tappets, or apparently, valve spring breakage will occur. I read him the ad and instructions that came with my heads that did not specify or restrict the heads to hyd flat tappets only. Edelbrock does not offer a better spring for this head, nor offered to correct the potential problem on my uninstalled heads. I asked him, where that left me? I was told, I could have the spring seat machined out for a larger spring and buy larger springs and retainers. Ron finally, with some persuasion, took my name and number. Since this was not done voluntarily, I doubt any corrective action will be taken.

I saw that post on Corral a while back. I just got the latest issue of MMFF in the mail last night and noticed that they're working over a set of those heads for their budget 347 project. I didn't read the article yet, but it will be interesting to see what it says about the heads.

I have been following the same article and planned on using it for a guide line in gathering parts for my build. Apparently the heads are not up to standards for their 347 build. They are cnc porting them, machining out the spring seats, installing larger springs, retainers and changing valves. I think that about disqualifies it as an E Street head.

Thanks for the advise on Fox Lake parts. I will check them out.

That's pretty bogus that they're saying it shouldn't be used on roller motors. Those heads have been marketed HARD at the 5.0 guys.

Besides, are there even any SBF guys that still CHOOSE to build flat tappet motors these days? Even the classic guys are converting to HR now.

But, from my understanding, a lot of heads like that have to be machined for bigger Valve springs anyways. And im sure theyve listed somewhere what those springs are capable of and all things considered they arent exactly top of the line heads reguardless:Shrug:

Here's the catalog page for them and NOTHING is said about roller lifters.

I have become disenchanted with Edelbrock for some time now and I even have their intake on my car. Getting them to answer some of my questions has been difficult at best and their customer support as well as their prices are bs. Vic Sr. is likely rolling in his grave.

Their prices are ridiculous on some stuff (polished intake price is beyond stupid). I run a Vic jr. And I have no problems with it but for as big of a company as they are, they should step up their customer support

I've had a few problems with Edelbrock in the past, nothing super serious but enough to make me look elsewhere in the future. I got a RPM II intake one time and one of the coolant ports wasn't even tapped. I had to go to the hardware store and buy a NPT tap and make my own threads.
