Edelbrock intake with GT-40p heads and E-303 cam

I have a 9lb powerdyne with bbk 70mm throttlebody, motorsport shorty headers, mac x pipe and catback, fluidyne radiator, frpp 30lb injectors, and a grantelli 75mm mass air meter. I have a edelbrock performer intake, 1.72 rocker arms, and an e-303 cam waiting to be installed. Will it be better to put some GT-40P heads on or stay with the stockers? I have motorsport headers, so the GT-40Ps will bolt on. Is it worth it and how much power do you think these heads will produce. I've done a search and not sure really....

Gt-40p heads are slight better than stock. However, I have been told that the gt-40p heads have small exhaust valves and therefore aren't exactly boost friendly. Im sure you can get away with using them, but they are not the best choice for a boosted application.

Gt-40"p" heads are alot better than stock e7's. This isn't to say they are near the aluminum heads such as trickflow, afr, edelbrock but for a more budget oriented build gt-40"p" heads are nice. People have gotten ~300 rwhp N/A using H/C/I w/ "P" heads.

i had heard they weren't boost friendly as well, which is why i'm debating getting some or just saving up and getting some aluminum heads on down the road.....

I guess it comes to the point where we have to define what "alot better" and "slightly better" means.

In my case, I was looking at the fact that with p heads you have to run certain headers and put up with a weird spark plug angle. On top of this, for the price and work involved into fitting them onto the engine... the HP increase it gives, IMO, is not worth the cost/time/work. ESPECIALLY, if all the money and time was spent for these heads to be put on a boosted car because it would cut the blowers performance down.

Also, people have made 300 rwhp with stock e7's too. Its just a matter of combo and port work.

I suppose if you got the heads for dirt cheap and knew how to throw a wrench they would be worth the effort because one would see moderate gains from them.

i would just find a set of gt40's off an 95-96 explorer. they make great power over stock and work with boost, especially with a cam.

no, the early explorers had gt40's...they switched to P's in 97 to 01.
