I just bought one as well along with the matching carb, intake, and timing set. It seems to get good reviews from people who use them.

I have been very happy with it, been running it for about 7 years. If my motor was tuned and had a little more compression it would put me right over 300rwhp.

It gives the car a great lopey idle, and it screams when you get on it.

My dad runs one in his truck, and LOVES it...

It is a 404in small block (chev), p/p perf rpm heads, fully balanced forged bottom from scat, rpm air gap manifold, 780 cfm holley, 1&3/4 ceramic headers, turbo 400 with a stall, stock 3:1 gears.

It idles nice and lopey about 900, pulls good down low, and reeeeelllyyy starts to breathe about 3800, pulls great all the way to 6500.

(jump in it about 35-40 on dry pavement and just destroy the tires... )

If you want a good street-strip cam that you can still drive, I think its a good choice.

Interesting, I bought the full "RPM" kit for my Windsor but the techs at DSS-Racing talked me into getting a custom grind in between a 270H and the 280H instead of the RPM cam.

EXACTLY, this cam has a lot of power in it yet still idles smooth, has a ton of vacuum, and it quite streetable.

I have the Edelbrock Performer RPM cam along with a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb and performer-rpm intake. I also used the valve springs that Edelbrock specified on my hand ported stock '69 heads. I had to have the spring seats machined down to get the installed height to spec. I used full roller rocker arms and guide plates (guide plates are required with this cam as the spring pressure will cause immature guide wear when used with stock type rail rockers). I installed the cam straight up. I have a Pertronix ignition, headers, 2.5" dual exhaust, etc. as well.
The car runs well, although, I have only about 11 inches of vacuum at idle (power brakes work fine at all RPM's). The car idles fairly smoothly at 850 RPM - anything less causes the engine to shake a bit. I have the stock 2.79 rear gears so I have a hard time getting off the line as this cam does not make much power until about 2000 rpm.
I fought with the vacuum for a long time because Edelbrock said I should have 15 or 16 inches at idle but I was never able to get that. I had a shop tune it in and they couldn't get any more either. Since I did not degree the cam, I am still not completely convinced that it was not ground a few degrees retarded (which would explain the vacuum). Since the cam has 290/300 advertised duration, that my be a bigger cause of low vacuum than the degreeing.

No, my signature is not accurate anymore...

I had this cam with both a auto and stick, the 270 didnt like my auto and would like lurch even with the stall, the RPM cam was smoother even though it was bigger, that why i say it was more streetable

OZ, the RPM cam, as stated by the techs and on the website, is only expected to produce 10-12 inches of vacuum at idle. Not sure if they changed their tune or you were looking at regular Performer specs. I have the entire RPM package with the heads on a 393 Coast kit and I love it, but this is my first stroker so I don't know what to compare it to.

The only difference in specs between the 351 and the 302 RPM cam of lobe seperation. Not sure how well that helps the idle for the 302 cams, but it seems like a lot of cam for most 302s.

2,200 is at the bottom end of acceptable, yet is acceptable. As with most things...ask 5 people for their opinions and get 6 answers, but I put a 2,800 behind basically the same hp/tq curve with a 3.89 rear, and had some folks suggest I go higher still.

Let me know if you need one but I have a brand new TCI converter for the C4 rated at ~2,400-2,600 stall. I bought it for my perf-rpm car and then decided on an AOD, so it is still in the box it came from Summit in.

I would think seriously about getting better heads. Seems a waste to buy all these performance goodies and try to get flow out of stock heads.

I did the RPM cam and intake set up first...because I couldn't afford heads at the time. With a 3-angle valve job on the stock heads and no port work my 289 made 224rwhp with the RPM stuff (had the 3 speed and 2.80 gears then). When I added the Trick flow heads it gave me an instant 50HP more at the wheels. You can always upgrade the heads later.

I can't offer much of opinion as far as the converter because I have never had an auto, but I will say that this cam doesn't not come on until 2800rpms so, I think you might want a little higher rpm.

Try emailing edelbrock (or even TCI or B&M) and see what they recommend.
