EDELBROCK RPM 2.02 OR 1.90 INTAKE

Will the Edelbrock RPM heads with 1.90 intake valves perform as well as the 2.02 valve heads up to about 5,500 rpm? If not will the bigger valved head run better off idle all the way up or do better up to a certain rpm? I know this depends a lot on the rest of the setup but would just like a generalization of how they will perform. The engine will be a 393 or 408 stroker. The car will be used mostly for cruising and a few trips to the dragstrip.
 
since this is going on a large displacement engine, you want the larger valves to feed it. the nice thing about cubic inches is that you can run larger valves and cams and still have a mild engine.
 
RBOHM, I was leaning toward the bigger valved heads but just wanted to make sure that this would be very civilized in traffic.

A little more info. I'll probably be using Comp Cam XE262H .493-.500 lift 218-224 duration with a 110 lobe seperation or Comp Cam XE268H .510-.512 lift 224-230 duration with a 110 lobe seperation. Carb will be about 700-750 cfm.
 
I know the Edelbrock RPM's aren't the best flowing head available but they are cheaper. I'm not looking to build a serious racer but just want to smoke the tires occasionally without much effort and a trip or two to the strip just to see what it'll do. A friend of mine just bought a 360 Cuda and I want to be able to do him in too. Just want a fun weekend cruiser. I've been planning this for quite awhile now and I think the time is right. I'm going to the Columbus Ohio swap meet this weekend and will come back with some parts if I can find them reasonably priced.
 
I am running the 1.90 heads on my 393 for 2 reasons:

1. The smaller valves will clear a variety of pistons, while the 2.02s will not. I can re-use these heads on any SBF I want.

2. Due to the shrouding from a 4.00 inch bore, you really don't get much gain at all with the 2.02 heads. Edelbrock rates the flow about the same. 1.90 heads will be a torque monster for the use you are describing. I am happy with mine.
 
I think that RPM-2.02s on a 408 is a fine combination, excellent torque and smooth power, more than enough for street use and more than the factory ever had for a mainstream Mustang back in the day.

Although I'd go with the 268 instead of the 262.
 
I would go with Victor JR heads. It is not a tow truck motor and tq with those heads will not be an issue in a Mustang with a 408. Why build a large stroker and feed it through a straw? Performers where designed with a 5.0 in mind, and the only difference in the RPMs is lack of emissions provisions.
 
how can you not have enough money for a 347 if youre building a 393 or 408?

I've already got a 351 block and an intake that I bought awhile back for a really good price.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm heading to Columbus Ohio early tomorrow morning to see what I can find. I also have CJ Pony Parts bringing me two fenders and a hood (they gave me a very good price but still not cheap) made with the Ford tooling.
