efi fuel pump

Is there anyone that could give me a little recommendation on what fuel pump to get for my 418. I've ask around and it seems there is alot of either underkill or way overkill. It will be around 500hp peak hp at motor. Looking at aeromotives A1000 but it seems quite large. Mostly daily driver with some track use. I am just needing a pump that will not heat up too bad for a long road trip, but that be up to the task of low e.t.'s. It would be great if it was also quiet. I do have 36lb injectors and fuel rails, but need pump, regulator, filters, and line.

I would look into dual boush external 255's since you mentioned you would like it to be quiet. They would give you reliablity plus they would offer enough over kill for a little power adder if you wanted to later. A weldon 2015 would be nice as well and are bullit proof, but they aren't cheap nor quiet.

two vs one fuel pump

If you were to run a single external pump, what would it be? Also what are the advantages on running two versus just one? I assume the intake pump being used is a booster pump for the external pump. But, if the external pump failes, would the sump pump be able to flow through the failed pump. If not, I don't understand the concept of using two. Thanks for the replies. As soon as I get my fuel system together and get everything else lined out, hopefully I will be able to post my motor running on my motor stand.

I think 87stangdiddle was talking about a stock fuel system which used a 255lph intake to replace the stock pump and an external booster pump. It doesn't sound like it applies to what your looking for since you aren't useing the stock lines and rails. The nice thing about the dual walbro external 255's comeing out of a sump is the reliablity and the lower sound levels. Supposedly they support 8-900 hp when combined together and I wouldn't worry about having to slow them down for street use.
Personally I like weldon. Yeah they are noisy, yeah they are expensive, buy they are also pretty much bullet proof. the 2015 should be able to be run without a Weldon dial-a-flow. My buddy runs it with 600 hp blown without issues but he would have a bit higher fuel demand than you will. Do a search for dual walbro external 255's on here and the corral. If I were you I would look into them. I think they would match your set up nicely with room to spare.

Thanks again for the replies. I will be running a return style regulator. Ponyboy19, looks like we have real similar combos and hp. Is there a reason why you used all aeromotive stuff except the fuel pump? . Also when you say they are loud, can you here them over your motor at idle or while running? Sorry for all the questions, just not finding many people running big cube efi strokers.

The only Areomotive pieces I used was the regulator, a filter, and a couple fittings. I used the Weldon 2025 pump with a dial a flow in order to handle in upwards of 1000 hp blown if I ever choose to go that much. The pump full speed is quite loud. At idle you definetly hear the pump but it quites down when you slow it down with the dial-a-flow. The 2015 is about the same sound level. My buddy runs that on a 600 hp blown set up with NO dial a flow continuously on the street without issue. His fuel demand would be a bit higher than a N/A 500 hp but the 2015 handles continous duty very well for him. The 2015 is still a LOT of pump for a n/a 500 fwhp though and could be slowed down a bit with a dial a flow. There are many pumps out there that will work including the A1000 (I've just heard they aren't reliable).

If you want to talk to someone that know's fuel systems in and out. Give these guys a call.. Their knowledge is second to none and are more than willing to talk and sell you what you need. I run the weldon 600A fuel pump, its very quite and fits right up under the rear bumper no one will even know you have a serious fuel system. It will handle up to 800hp at the crank (i know b/c i maxed mine out) im gonna run 2 of them now, but for a street/strip car the pump is wonderful. I run an aeromotive regulator, everyone who really races and sells pumps tell me that the a1000 fuel pumps are garbage FWIW.
