Simply shutting the EGR off with the chip does nothing but eliminate the error code if there is a problem with the egr, or it has been blocked off. It is a toss up because the EGR does help with part throttle drivability, and it lowers the combustion tempature which helps with longevity fo the valves. Like others have said the EGR closes at WOT, but the one thing people forget is that the EGR valve is connected directly to your exhaust with a "metal" tube, which conducts heat directly to the plenum. So elminating the unit itself maybe worth a little.
