OK, problem. I just finished my afr head swap Heres the problem, of course i broke off the old egr tube taking it off, so i ordered a new one from ford. i replaced my gt intake with a factory 95 cobra intake and used flowtech shorty headers. the new egr tube doesnt fit correctly! I see it is crimped in the middle and looks like it should bend but it just doesnt want to bend easily. is there some secret. for now, to start the car i just capped everything off and pluged in the egr so it wouldnt trip a cel. so far, the car is running nicely. is there anything wrong with just leaving everything capped besides obvious emissions laws? i would like to stay emissions legal just to say it is a 300hp emissions legal car, but its not totally neccessary.
ive tried the pipe department at home depot looking for a way to make a egr tube, but i cant imagine much holding up to the heat. Is there any bendable tube out there that will actually hold up to the heat of fresh out of the engine exhaust? or better yet, whats an easy way to bend the stock egr tube, i think i could make it work by bending it, but its def. not the easy way

my car pinnged all the time with it capped off. when i put mine on i found it easiest to screw the tube onto the valve when its off of the car, then screw it onto the header, then bolt it to the intake last.

well i may try that, maybe it will bend the tube tightening down to the intake, or ill break something the key would be removing the studs and using bolts to bolt down the egr. i just cant see the pinging being an issue with afr aluminum heads, but who knows. i havent gotten that far yet.

Get some 5/8's copper tubing. Cut your old tube in half to get the nuts off. bend up a new one out of the copper tubing, and then put the nuts on and flare the ends.....
It'll hold up fine. Mine's been on for 3-4000 miles...
Others on here maybe longer....

just want to add to my previous comment. when you screw the tube onto the header dont tighten it all the way. just enough to hold. that should give you enough play to get the valve onto the two studs. then go back and tighten at the header.

I had the same problem when I swapped intakes. The EGR tube was too long by only 1/16", which was the most frustrating part. I ended up using a torch to heat the ribbed middle section and a vice to compress it, and unfortunately blew a hole in the tube and used JB weld to patch it up. Needless to say, it is still on my car today with no problems. Good luck, that alone took me an hour to finagle.

Your Ping Thing Frustration is due to the fact you got a GT type Stang which is delivered from Ford with a pcm that has too much spark & too little fuel.

That is the main prob ... plain & simple ... been like that since 94-95

A search for ping on your part will no doubt yield hundreds of posts

Some have done everything known to man and the beast still prevails

If you can get your egr system working correctly, that will be a thing that can only help with this issue.

BTW .................

If you can get inside the pcm and

1) add a bit of fuel
2) pull a bit of spark
OR
3) do a bit of 1 & 2

The beast can be killed for good very quickly
