Hey all, new to the forum and wondering if I could get some help with someone who has experience with springs. I apologize ahead of time if this has already been brought up, please let me know and I'll check out the link.

I have an 06 GT with stock 17' wheels. I had the local speedshop install the eibach pro- kit which should have been a 1 to 1-1/2 inch drop with no need for caster camber plates. When they had finished the install the car looked lower than 1-1/2 inches. They explained that the 06 had MacPherson struts unlike the 05 (i thought there was no difference in the model years) and because of that it dropped the car lower than they thought. They said there were no caster camber kits available (doesn't sound right either) and they would need to grind down the struts to get the alignment right. They called eibach and got some weird answer about spacing bolts and stated they had found a kit locally and could install it on the cheap. This shop came highly recommended from a trustworthy friend who had his 03 gt worked on there. They admittedly have not worked on any 06's yet.

Has anyone else had these issues? Is this shop yanking my chain or did eibach release a product before reviewing changes to 06? Were there any suspension changes between 05 and 06? Do I need some kind of camber kit for alignment? I really don't want to have them grinding down my struts if they don't have to. Any help that you guys can provide would be much appreciated.

Here's a couple pics with the Sportline kit installed (compliments of drafthorsepower from 2005stang.com).

the shop that did your install apparently doesnt know crap about the 05+ Mustangs. :notnice:

Not all cars are the same, sometimes the drop can be more or less per vehicle. Just check the color of the springs.

The guy isn't yanking your chain. Attached is a picture showing the problem. There is a camber bolt that goes in the bottom hole. The bottom hole will need to be opened up toward the strut, or if you are looking at the picture, to the right, if you were staring directly at the bottom bolt (bottom bolt = one closest to the ground). They just need to open up the hole so the hub can move back some. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the bolt but it looks like a bolt with a washer mounted off center. I had to do this with the FRPP kit which comes with the bolt but absolutley no instructions on how to use it.

Hope this helps.

I would purchase the "camber adjusters" regaurdless which springs you have.

The springs are what they are, I dont think your going to change them now.Take the car to a good alignment shop and have it aligned...

Steeda also makes a camber kit.

You may also find that the rear end and pinion angle is out of square due to the lowering. you can fix that with a adjustable panhard and third link.

All:

Here is the update. The springs are black and I checked the numbers on the actual springs and they check out. I called EIbach and they said they sold a kit that would fix the angle for the alignment. lbc50 pretty muched stated it as there is a bolt that needs to be installed to make it work. Still strange though as Eibach said they hadn't had any problems with any 06's yet. I guess I should feel special. Thanks for all the input and I will give you an update once the alignment is done.

My ProKit was scheduled to be installed in my '06 this weekend... Then vendor contacted Eibach and the also recommended a 'kit' that would be needed $15.00. Kit and Pro Setup will be in and installed next weekend. So, Yes, it does sound like there is an additional component needed for the '06's.:nice:

I have presonally taken my car apart twice now. The thing I was wondering, is why don't they elongate the hole from the factory & why don't the aftermarket struts come with an elongated hole??? Well someone, very knowledgable told me that VW has the patent on that process and therfore they leave it up to the individual to do it. Don't know if it is true or not but seems reasonable.

Whatever shop does the work will need to modify your strut slightly to work with the bolt. It should easy work with a die grinder.
