My fans pretty well chewed up and I'm tryin to get my car set up for rod run down here in daytona so I figured instead of havin to worry about overheatin cruisin through heavy traffic I would go ahead and do my upgrade to the electric fan. I always hear about charging issues though with the stock altenator mostly because of u/d pulley kits but I was curious if this goes for electric fan upgrades too? I was lookin at the black magic electric fan on 5.0 resto and was gonna go with it and I'm not really ready to upgrade the altenator yet so the 3g thing isn't in my budget just quite yet. If I can use an electric fan will I need a shorter belt? Also I notice when I turn my key just before you turn it enough to turn the car over my amp light always shows up with the battery symbol but goes away after the car starts. I've never had trouble starting the car though cold or hot always starts no problem is that just a dummy light problem I got goin on?

The battery light has a prove-out to show you that it's functional. Once the car starts, the alternator excites and the light goes out.

You will really be pushing it to use an E-fan with a stock alt (though if miserly wih accessories, it has been done short-term).

Any fan worth a crap is going to suck some amps (1/3-1/2 of your alt's capacity). I really would do the 3G at the same time or before the fan.

The belt stays the same.

Good luck.

the stock alt is garbage to begin with, even when working perfectly. throw an e-fan on top and you're asking for trouble.... just my 2c.

I have black magic electric fans and MSD 6al's on everything I own , yet to have an issue like that. You will use the same belt the pulley still stays.

I ran an elec fan from a taurus sho and a nice stereo. Only time I had problems was at a stop light with the volume way up (about 2000 watts of stereo )

Best bet is still to run a 3g alt as mine was a ticking time bomb.

I did run a cheap Autozone efan with my stock 65 amp alt. for a solid 2 years before i ever started getting charging problems, and i think it was because the alt. was sourced from a '70 Lincoln 460...lol. I have since gone with a 3g/Optima Yellow top and all my charging issues are gone. Right now i've got the same Autozone fan (i think it's a Mr. Gasket) wired to a relay that's ran from the solenoid for a key-on....it's ghetto and i need to get my fan controller hooked back up but it works.

Thanks again guys I'm just went to a junkyard and grabbed an old fan blade just to get by should do my 3g and e-fan upgrade in december sometime. Gonna hold off until I can get my altenator e-fan and I figure hell while I'm there a set of u/d pulleys wouldn't hurt.
