Hi All,
I have a 68 Coupe with a 24" x 16" radiator core, with between 4 5/8" & 4 3/4" clearance between the radiator and the water pump pulley, once you consider the bolts to hold the pulley on. I want to do the easiest, least fabrication, junkyard electric fan setup that will get the job well done. I've already done a search and read every pertinent thread and gleaned some ideas, but need to find some specs and I'm coming up short.

A) It appears that the most recommended fan is from a Lincoln Mark VIII (or similar T-Bird), but the depth makes it a no go!
B) Mid 90's Taurus/Sable fan seems to have ok lateral dimensions and would require very little trimming. I, however, cannot seem to find the depth dimension. It would also be nice to know the CFM.

https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/mor...id=1324&jpid=4

C) 1992-ish Tempo/Topaz looks to be a good fit, but again, no depth dimension or CFM specs.

https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/mor...id=1514&jpid=2

D) What seems would be a big winner is the dual fan unit from 1997 Contour/Mystique, with a very gentle depth of 3.3" but there are no CFM specs.

https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/mor...id=1607&jpid=2

None of these fans seem to list current (amperage) draw or CFM, but I've seen many of you espouse these specs in other threads. If you can point to the source for these specs or provide some of the specs, I would greatly indebted to you.

Also, are the fans from the 3.0 Taurus/Sable substantially wimpier than the ones for the 3.8? I notice the same dimensions, but different part numbers.

Thank You,
Gene

the factory fans are going to pull about 3000-3500 cfm of air, but the downside is that they will also draw about 30amps while running, and they can draw as much as 80-100 amps at start up, thus most factory fans are set up on an 80-100 amp relay.

Electrical is pretty easy for me and I have no issue upgrading my alternator and tacking on a dedicated circuit for the fan(s). I just don't want to go through all the bother to discover that the fan I chose didn't move enough air. I would likely set it up with an "always on" toggle switch under the dash.

Thanks For The Reply,
Gene

i would use a thermostatic switch to trigger the relay, but use the toggle switch as a back up should the thermostat switch fail. you should also set the fan up to turn on when the a/c is turned on.

Thank you sir. Please correct me if I'm misinformed, but I've generally been led to believe that at any speed above 20 mph or so, an operating fan (mech or elec)actually impedes the air flow. And yep, I forgot to mention that I would also set it to be automatically on with the AC.

Still looking for specs an/or thoughts on which fan to choose?
Thanx Again,
Gene

usually when a fan blocks air to the radiator, its because they are in front of the radiator in a pusher mode. in a puller mode, they dont block the air.

as for what fan to use, pick one that pulls at least 2800cfm, is about 14-17" in diameter, and fits in the space provided.

Derale S blade fans work well and move a good amount of air. Been real happy with mine.

I went to a wider radiator with a Taurus fan and on the hottest days in traffic temp might reach 190*. I have a 1 wire 100A alternator and its fine even with the stereo, fuel pump, gauges, lighting and fuel injection.
