Is a single 16 inch fan good enough to cool my car .....I will be installing a thermostat switch , If a single 16 isnt big enough I will probably go with 2 twelves but I will have to upgrade the alternator to provide more electricity , I am just hoping that one 16 will hold me over till later ??? anybody running just one 16 and how much RWHP is the stock fan holding me back ....

mods are as follows Y303 heads , B303 cam ,255lph pump , adj FPR, typhoon intake , 70mmTB and egr , 24lb inj, granatelli 75mm MAF .....

2002 - where are you located? How is the car used? A/C? Auto tranny? It's really hard to answer how much fan it might take -- lots of variables. A stock 5spd notch with big aluminum radiator and no a/c in rural Michigan needs a lot less fan than a modded vert with a/c and automatic/loose stall converter that has to do bumper to bumper in August in Miami. See what I mean? By the way - if what you're thinking of is one of the "$69 Specials" at your local speedshop - you'll probably be sorry. They rarely move enough air. I think you want at least 2700-3000 cfm.

Whatever you get (I recommend either the Lincoln MkViii fan, the Taurus 3.8L fan, the SN94/95 fan, or the SPAL dual 11" fully shrouded unit) control it with this - www.dccontrol.com. Only way to go as far as a controller. Last - we don't know what kind of car you're actually talking about (might want to consider creating a signature), but if it's a fox body, and has the stock 65A alternator - you're gonna need to upgrade the alternator. At least 95A, most folks go with a 130A.

a decent elec fan is the black magic from flex-a-lite. its a single 16inch i think.. it pulls upper 2000's cfm. works good, used it on the street with no problems, is great at the track to wire it to an on-off switch to let it run between rounds. install was simple too.

I agree with Michael Yount, buy the Delta Current control. I'm running one with my S/N95 fan. Easy hookup, even for a non-electrical peson like myself. You don't have to deal with switches, relays, etc. It really works.

I had a permacool 16 inch fan on mine. It fit inside the factory shroud and cooled the car fine. My friend runs the same fan but a 15 in and it keeps his car cool. I have the 16 almost new in the box with a themostat if you are interested. I ended up switching fans when I got my griffin radiator to a dual unit mainly for looks so I could get rid of the factory fan shroud since it was not wide enough to cover the radiator completely.

xplo89gt...there is a guy selling some mark 8 fans on the Corral. I think his name is MAV. I believe he was wanting 80 bucks for 1, which supposedly isnt a bad price. I personally went w/ the dual Ramcharger set-up.

Yep....and IMHO ridiculously over-priced. Not saying anything about the quality, because they are top-notch....but how much do you want to spend, and how do you want it to operate. A Mark-8 will suffice.

After putzin' around with these kinds of things for 35 years or so, I've found that much more often than not, you get what you pay for. Related to that, the surest way to spend MORE money than you have to is to not buy quality the first time. And when you buy used, you usually are just guessing and hoping -- which is ok, just as long as you know that when you make the purchase.

Which brings us back to the 2 chief car-building/modding axioms:

There is no substitute for cubic dollars AND it's usually "over priced" only if you can't afford it. :)

It's almost always cheaper in the long run to get the best parts you can - even if that means waiting a bit and saving for a bit longer.

I purchased the 65-amp DC control, but a 35-amp will probably suffice. Baskin notified me that a 35 will handle the Mark VIII, so I'm sure it will handle the SN/95. I ordered my DC control before he got back to me on the amp rating. Also, when the SN/95 fan really kicks in under heavy load, the temp drops like a rock. I found that playing around with the temp setting jumpers to find the ideal setting helps. I have mine set now for the 194* setting since it's cold outside and the fan won't have to work so hard. In the summer I'll probably set it to 180* or 187*, depending on how the unit responds with hotter temps outside. I also used a laser temp sensor to locate the hottest part of my radiator to make sure the car stays as cool as possible. Hope some of this info helps.

Black Sun - if you've got a 180F t'stat, you won't want to set it right at 180F - it can get into a bit of a feedback-fight with the t'stat if the temps are too close. Try 187F - I use that year round with my 180F t'stat. Works like a champ.
