Alright, recently my headlights started flicking on and off and then one night the only thing that would work were my headlights...no fogs no rear night time lights no yellows or gauge lights. So I decided to do this and see if it would help(the gt fog light fix) http://www.corral.net/tech/maintenance/foglights.html
Well I did that today and once I had it done with I turned the lights on and same old...just the headlights. Then I found out fuse 4 was blown, it had a 15 amp and i put another in and switched on the headligths and it blew. So i put a 30 amp fuse in and turned on the headlights and they worked...sort of.....the headlights, yellows, and fog lights all worked but still no rear night time lights. So I was a little relieved to see I was making progress...until I saw the wires from the headlight switch smoking. The 2 brown wires started melting along with the light brown wire across them in the switch. Now I'm stuck with half melted wires and I don't know what to do. This is probably due to a short in a wire somewhere right??? Does anybody know what I can do??? Any info is appreciated. (1991 mustang gt)

Thanks

the first thing you need to do is replace the headlight switch and switch connector.i don't know if the corral fix works or not but after you have this problem your too late to fix it anyway.never put a bigger than required fuse in also because it merely transfers the electrical load elsewhere and can cause you other problems.

I just totally rewired my 85 from the fuse panel forward. I tore ALL the wires out, and replaced them with big thick cable. My suggestion would be go under the dash and look for the light green wires they are the headlights, green with black is high beams, dark brown is the constant power for the lighta that work without a key. The tan are fogs. I recommend tying all your wires into the same wire and have a kill switch. Of course never put a black wire into the mix. As of now my car is all rewired plus the batt is in back, the starter relay is now where the computer was, (doing nothin) the window wipers switch is running my own custom tire wetter that squirts water on my tires for burnouts and I have an electric fan, and a remote start in the engine bay......I think I have the wires for foxes figured out. If you need any help Pm me I will help as I can. www.autozone.com is agreat site go to repair then chassis electrical, it taught me all I needed to do the job. It seems complicated but really is not. There are really a red and black (from the battery) all the blacks tie into the black all the other wires are power wires. In my carbed car I have the wires for my lights that are hidden, the starter wire, the alt wires, the coil wires, and the electric choke wires THAT IS ALL, oh...... an now electric fan and remote start( that was my power gas lid) and my tire wetter. Good luck it takes time, but it is easier than it seems.
