Well, i installed a new pioneer radio the other day and it would turn on but there was no audio. then i checked all the connections again and turned off the ingnition and switched it back on and now it didnt even turn on. i looked at the radio fuse and it wasnt blown. i looked at my fuse box and i found 2 blown fuses. number 8 and some other one. it was for the windows courtesy lights and a few other things. but to my surprise they all still work! HIGHLY CONFUSED!!!! plz help. i dont want to pay $65 an hour for an auto electrician to look for the problem.

Are you using the stock radio connectors and a jumper, or did you cut the stock connectors off the stock harness and splice wires individually?

If you did the latter, you should reinstall the stock connectors and use an adapter harness from CC, Best Buy, Crutchfield, ect.

Other than that, go back over all your connections and find the error. Do NOT simply twist wires when connecting the adapter harness to the radio harness. Best way to do it is to solder and cover with shrink wrap, next best thing is to use butt connectors with heat shrink.

i used stock connectors from brandsmart USA.

I'd like to hear more about this. I'm just curious.

I agree with pulling everything back out and checking for shorting wires. Obviously something has found a piece of metal to ground to or was miswired (since fuses are blowing).

i checked all my connections but theres only so far i can check. everything gets bundled up into a fat wrapped cable. like....there all bunched up towards the back. i think im going to be forced to get the car rewired or something

It is not difficult to trace these issues down. You should only have to check the items you already touched during the install. If you didnt pull wire loom back, you should not have to touch that stuff.

These cars can nickel and dime ya forever. If you have to pay for work to be done on them, chances are one is better off getting a newer car. For those who want to dive in, check things, ask questions about what they find and so-on, these cars are fun and the forum is a great asset.

I thought the power windows were on a circuit breaker on the starter solenoid.

Hey did you ever hook up the old radio to see if the Pioneer is defective?

nah the old radio, when you touched the volume, it would go crazy.
besides, i bought a new pioneer for my lx and i took out the older one i was using
on it and put it in the gt to test it out. but then this crap happened. and i know that they can take alot of work, but im up for, thats just some more time to bond with my car.

First thing is to check your ground to the radio - I believe it is grounded to the floor right behind the radio - make sure it is tight and clean. I assume you were not having issues with blowing fuses before - if not than there might be a problem in the wiring that was laying dormant until you pulled the radio out and moved something. These cars can drive you nuts like that. Get a volt meter and check ground, power, and switched power first thing at the harness with the radio out - than go from there.
