I just installed a new fuel pump and fuel pump relay and the car still does not prime or start. I have gone through the Fuel Pump Troubleshooting Guide(thank you jrichker!) and got some answers but I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and can maybe shed some light on the subject.
My car is a 92LX Convertible with 90K on it and is stock except a K&N Filter. In the first test, I have 5.7Volts going to the fuel pump. The inertia switch is not tripped and has 11.5V going to both sides of the switch. Next, the Fuel Pump Relay (this is where it gets a little confusing). The checklist reads that there should be a black/pink wire that is always “hot.” I have located the FP Relay and know it is not the WOT A/C Relay, however the black wire that I have is black with a thin yellow stripe. Is this normal—I cannot spot a Blk/Pink wire anywhere? In any case, that wire has 0 Volts going to it and the Red wire has 12V going to it.
Based on this information and the Troubleshooting Guide, is it correct to think that the black wire and/or fuse link are bad? I cannot locate where the black wire ends or the fuse link—I think it is at the solenoid. Anyone have any issues like this or can offer advice? Are my Voltage numbers correct? This has dragged out for a couple months and I am starting to feel in above my head. Worst case and I cannot fix this, I am located in Champaign, IL if anyone knows of a shop that is good, reliable, and knows the ins and outs of Fox Body Mustangs. Thank you in advance for your help.

Blk/Yel is probably the output (N.O.) wire from the WOT relay.

See if you can find the FP relay.
It will either be next to the WOT relay or under the driver's seat (as mentioned).

Good luck.

I double checked and there is no relay under the driver's seat--I think pre-1991 they were under the dr seat but after that they are right below the mass air meter. Any clue on the color of the wire? It says to look for a blk/pink but I only have a blk/yellow. Is it possible that I just have a different color? Any other hints on where the fuse link is for that wire and what it looks like?

Thanks

Do you have only one relay on the fender? IF so, that's the WOT relay and the FP relay still needs to be found.

I have two relays on the pass fender just below the mass air meter. Just in case, I checked the one that is further back (closer to the fire wall) and it doesn't have a pink/blk wire either. hmm...

If that wire is actually dark Green/yellow (the wires get real dirty - Simple Green helps clean them up), that should be the N.O. wire from your FP relay. It is the relay's power output.

What color is the other 'fat' wire on the relay socket?

The FP should have pnk/blk, dk green/yel, lt blue/or, and VPWR (Red).

The WOT relay should have Red, or/lt blue, pnk/lt blue, and blk/yellow.

Ok, I checked out the two relays on the pass. side fender.

The two relays have different wire patterns on the back but seem to use the same type of relay. Here's what they looked like, in their patterns (the * show the wire placement on the back of the relay):

Relay #1

*Red *Blk w/thin *Tan w/thin
yellow stripe yellow stripe

*Yellow w/thin
blue stripe

Relay #2
*Yellow w/thin
Blk stripe

*Red *Blue w/thin
Orange stripe

*Green w/thin
Yellow stripe

Which relay is the fuel pump relay and what should I test? Thanks!

alright the formatting got weird on the post.

Relay #1 the pattern on the back looks like a T (three wires in a horizontal line and one below in the center)

Relay #2 looks like a cross.

Hope this makes sense.
