Electrical Problems?

Just got the car inspected. Stopped at the gas station. Got out of the car and the chime that reminds you that you left the key in it started going off, but my key was not in the car. The headlights weren't on either. Noticed a clicking sound soon and realized my turn signals or hazards (couldn't tell which, was really sunny, couldn't tell if it was hazards or just the driver side turn signal) were on all by themselves too. The car will not start. Battery gauge reads fine. But the car wont start. Does absolutely nothing when I turn the key. When I turn on my hazards myself I get like two different rythm's of of clicks. One like the actual hazards are on and one like the original clicking I was explaining.

Luckily a friend just happened to be getting gas and helped me push it off to the side. Its up at the gas station right now, any help would be greatly appreciated to at least get it home.

sorry for the late reply. no it does not have a car alarm.

went up there today again to try to start it and the same thing. soon as i open the door the door/headlight chime starts and the turn signals start blinking. i noticed the clock/radio on the inside blinking as well. dashlights come on when i turn the key to on, but nothing when i try to start.

There was a FREE recall on Ford ignition switches. They overheat and sometimes catch fire. That burns up the steering column and sometimes the car interior. Since this is very old information, you may not be able to get the switch replaced for free anymore. The auto parts stores sell the switches for $13-$15.

The vehicle in question is a '94.

Are you really sure about the alarm? It might be some old passively arming version that was awoken during the inspection.

Did the dash clock blink or just your head-unit's clock?

Missed that... I knew there was a good reason why I went to the eye doctor Tuesday... Time for new computer glasses...

Would it still not be the ignition switch because its a '94? I also had someone think that was it.

I'm really not sure that theres an alarm. If I did have an alarm and its causing this whats my next step?

They are less prone to issues but sometimes they do

For the alarm, listen for the relay clicking and see if you can find it. You can back-trace the wiring to see if there's an alarm brain.

Sounds like the problem I had when my alarm remote crapped out. The alarm coming on makes the hazards go and disables the car from starting. What happens if you disconnect the negative battery cable and then hook it back up? This would trigger my alarm and I disable it with the remote. If the flashers don't go when you reconnect the cable maybe you don't have an alarm and you can take a look at the ignition switch.
