The electrical question: On the negative battery cable, there is a smaller wire that travels from the post to a bolt on the inner fender (Ground), then into a smaller black/yellow wire (Thats what colors it looks like to me anyway). The smaller wire has, what looks to be, a fusable link then progresses into the wiring harness below/behind the solinoid. I can't really tell where it goes from there. And mine is very melted/eroded (the fuse link, not the wire but battery acid will do that over time). Therefore I'm not sure if its a fuse link or relay or what but it looks very much like a fuseable link (Whats left of one anyway). Now why a fuseable link on a ground wire? and what does it link to? Lastly, I need to replace it so what size of amp does it require?
Its possible my above problem may contribute to the following lean condition in some way, since the connection was not very good.
Secondly: So for the last couple of months I've been noticing random Check Engine lights. They come and go as I'm driving the car. I wasn't driving the car that much during this period of time either, but I decided to put it away and diagnose it later.
Purchased a code reader and a FP guage this weekend. Drove the car to running temp. As I pulled into my driveway I get the Check Engine. I shut the car off and pulled the codes, KOEO. Recieved code 91 and 41. The car is obviously trying to tell me its a little lean. I connected my Fuel pressure guage, and at IDLE its at 38 psi, as I start to rev the engine it drops to 30-32 area. I didn't test WOT, but I revved it as high as say 3,000rpm. My 02 sensors are fairly new, maybe 3 years old at most. I'm not saying they are good, just saying they are fairly new. They could have easily failed, but I thought fuel pressure was supposed to stay at 38psi. I have plans for a larger pump thus a 3G alternator as well. A stonger pump should maintain the higher fuel pressure resulting in more fuel delivered through the injectors no? Also, If I need 24# injectors and calibration tube for the C&L MAF, I don't have a problem with that. Or if that eroded link is for the fuel pump in some way, it wasn't getting a very good ground.
One problem at a time though, first I'll fix that link with a new one. Then test things a bit. Then I'll be getting a bigger pump and 3G anyway just because I feel that with the mods I have its a logical choice.
