does anyone know if any late model electronic distributors will work in my 67 289 or how you could get any to work???

Yes it will. Look for duraspark conversions on the internet; tons of people have done it.

While you can often get the parts cheap, keep in mind that the factory Durasparks didn't have much of a performance curve, so you may want to modify it before installing.

Anywhere from late 70's to 1984 (cast gear) will work - 85 & up have steel gear for roller cams.

Why bother with converting it? Why not just install a Pertronix unit. This coupled with a small to large cap adapter, large dist cap, good wires, and a hotter coil, will give you all the benefits of electronic ignition, without the hassle of swapping distributors, and rewiring the engine compartment.

That's true, and I have seen my share of failures with the Ford Control box.

I had a Pertronix Ignitor II, it ran great for the money.

Now I have an MSD pro-billet ready to run distributor.

And I'll bet the only difference you've noticed is a mucho lighter wallet

Well, the old stock distributor was worn out. The vacuum advance was toast, the centrifugal advance was toast.

Rather than rebuild a turd, I just went with the MSD.

My kid has a friend that asked me what distributor to run with his carb converted 88 Stangs 5.0, I recommended a stock points type, fitted with a Pertronix II, a steel cam gear, small to large cap adapter, large stock EFI cap, Ford Racing 9MM wires. He went with the $400 MSD system like you did. I asked him if he could feel a $400 improvement in power----- He replied that he felt NO difference, other than a lighter wallet and an improvement in his 1/4 mile E.T. that equalled the weight of the cash missing from said wallet. I run the above combo in my 89 Ranger's 5.0 and it's dead reliable and performs flawlessly up to 7500 rpms. Cost's a lot less too.

A duraspark with an msd box has always served me well. You don't even need a ford spark box.
