Tell us about what emissons gear is or isn't on your car and what mods you have. It will help some of the other guys know what they need to do to get their cars to pass emissions testing.

Iirc, pre-90 mustangs have looser limits needed to pass emissions, in 1990, things started to get more strict which is why ford started revising the ho camshaft.

So when it comes to molding mustangs, it's easier to make a 1988 pass the sniffer than a 1992. Same car, but different limits used

So, would you say a '91 consisting of a TFS Street Heat intake, Twisted Wedge heads, and an Anderson N-41 cam pass emissions?

I just had mine tested and passed on Arizona's required dyno test. Mods are in my sig, and the Magnaflow spun-metallic cats have 3 years and 23,000 miles on them.

test...allowed...result
HC......1.00......0.63
CO....12.00......4.16
NOx....2.50......0.82

'92 LX with a 306, untouched GT40 irons, Cobra intake, FRPP 65mm TB, Pro-Flow 75mm MAF, Comp Cams 270 HR cam, 1-5/8 equal length shorties, Magnaflow spun metallic cats, 2.5 Borla XS w/Dynomax tailpipes.

Thanks for the info! I appreciate it. I'll have to look into that Comp 270 HR cam. I've got some thinking to do (Trick Flow top end? or Ford Racing top end?)

The cam is intended to work with stock style heads. High lift, mild duration. It's not the right cam for big-port heads. The secret is the Magnaflow spun-metallic cats.

Just tested again yesterday on a dyno-sniffer test. Now they have 4.5 years and 33,000 miles on them, 2,900 of which were under hard-use conditions on road courses, in many case EGT's were hot enough to boil the fuel in the tank thanks to the proximity of the tailpipes. I just passed emissions with them again:

Test...allowed....grams/mile
HC.......1.00........0.64
CO.....12.00........7.77
NOx.....2.50........0.38

FWIW, timing on a 5.0 can also make a huge difference.
I was right at the limit with my timing advanced. With timing set at stock, it passed with flying colors.
I had to dig my timing light out from under a ton of stuff to set the timing.
Setting timing by mechanically and by hand, how *****ing archaic!

I guess for once in NY were lucky. I just got my 92 inspected on Saturday and 95 or older only has to have a safety inspection and low emissions test. Low emissions means check gas cap and o2 sensors. I had to prove the et streets were street legal (brought in a summit write up) and he looked the other way on the O2 sensors.

I have nothing emissions on my car, so for once NY is easy to deal with
