hey guys,

Im in the process of gettin a 97 cobra. The car has an o/r xpipe and I will have to get it inspected because the car is from outta my state (CT). My question is, with MIL eliminators will i be able to pass the tests. I heard that they dont do visual checks but just rather plug the vehicle. With MILs does the vehicle still throw any codes without cats? Thanks.

if the MILS are working properly they shouldnt throw a code. however they might not pass the monitor readiness check. ive seen stangs with plug in MILs that dont throw a code show that the catalyst efficiency monitor hasnt run.

it should pass with the mils.. just remember.. if the CEL is on you need too disconect the battery for a few minutes.. then the code will be cleared but you will have a P1000 code because the the car has not been thru the obd2 drive cycles.. so do this a few days before you go in for a sticker... drive it around a mix of highway and city and in a few days the P1000 ( CEL will not be on with this in the PCM) but it is in memory so you will not get a sticker..should be gone and you will get your sticker..

thanks guys. ill give that battery disconnect strategy a try. Also, do i need to do this only if the CEL is currently on? Or do i have to do it if it was EVER on for that reason.

the mils are already on. I guess im just wondering if the previous owner got a CEL does it stay in memory? I was thinking i should disconnect it cuase of this just to clear any old entries in the memory.
