Engine and Trans MADE IN Germany and France?

I get up at the crack of dawn here in Cali to look at the '05 Stang before the sales guys drag themselves into work.

I was suprised to see that the V6 Mustang's engine is made in GERMANY and that the auto transmission was made in FRANCE. "Help me, Mr Wizard" I guess I had never read that before and was blown away. Ford is very global, maybe too much.

Well than buy a V8 stick shift, the V8 is made in Michigan and the T-3650 manual trannie in Mexico.

engine and transmission are made 500 Km from my town but we don't have Mustang at Ford dealerships

In the 80's the Ford Escort was advertised as "The Word Car" because it was built from components manufactured all over the world. The Mercury Villager Mini Van of the 90s was a rebadged Nissan Quest. The Ford Probe was a reskinned Mazda MX-6. The power brake Booster and ABS pump on my father's 89 Licoln MkVII was made by Bosch. back in the 60's. the body and chassis of the Shelby Cobras were made by AC Cars of England. The GT40s and some competition 427 Cobras used Weber Carbs. Outsourcing as far as Ford Motor Company is concerned,is nothing new, and began well before the current president.

The origins of the V6 go back many, many years to Germany, long before anyone had heard the term "outsourcing".

The Automatic trannie may be built on Ohio (Maryville??).

The 5R55 trannies for the Explorer are made in France, but the 5R55 trannies for the Lincoln LS and T-Bird are assembled in Ohio, However even though those trannies are assembled in Ohio the gearsets come from France so the country of origin is listed as France.

I'd guess that the Mustang auto trannie is assembled in Ohio as it seems the car trannies are assembled there while the truck trannies are assembled in France.

The 1974 Mustang II had a 2.8L V6. It was made in Cologne Germany. In fact the 2005 Mustang 4.0L V6 is based on that same Cologne 2800 V6 from 1973. So putting a German engine in a Mustang is nothing new, they did it 33 years ago.

Ford Motor Company is Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Volvo, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Land Rover, and Mazda. Is this a surprise?

One of the RX8 guys from Mazda apparently had a big hand in the '05 Mustang, too.

Actually outsourcing has been going on for a lot longer than the bush administration. Heinz (know that name like Heinz Kerry) oursources like 70% of their jobs. Further increased costs of doing business have to a large degree lead to outsourcing. If Nike can make a shoe in korea for 2.00 and the same shoe costs them 20.00 here, they are likely to make it over seas.

Now we can talk forever about unions, health care and the like. How each has made the cost of doing business in America extremely cost prohibivative....but then we have to recognize that before unions the american working man had a pretty raw deal. Further that the necessary tort reform to bring medical and therefore health insurance costs down is likely never to happen because one party or another owes their soul ($$$) to trial lawyers.

But to blame bush for something that existed way before he smoked his first joint is ridiculous and poorly tought out. Outsourcing has been around for a very very long time. Sometimes it's because it's cheaper to buy from overseas and sometimes it's because they already have a better product sitting in bins waiting to go.
