My DSS 308 needs a new crank and bearings, and I was planning on fixing it myself. I can either buy a brand new Ford crank, or I can get a crank kit from DSS. My question is am I going to have to have the whole reciprocating assembly re-balanced if I replace the crank? I want this thing to last, and this has got me thinking maybe I should just get another shortblock.

well inorder to have the engine balanced they need your rods and pistons or atleast the wieght of each one. I believe when they balance cranks they strap on wieghts equal to the wieght or each rod and piston. maybe give DSS a call and ask em. probably the best thing to do.
