I've got an 86 4 cyl that was swapped to a V8 somewhere along its way. I don't know what the motor came out of. Casting #'s on block indicates a 79, casting # on dist and intake are an 84 and the Z in the casting # on the intake is supposed to be a mustang (if what I read is correct).
I've gotten another beater to drive so that I can pull the engine in the stang. Is this block worth sinking the money into or not really. It runs fine. I'm gonna stick with a carbed motor. A buddy of mine said he would'nt waste the time but the only reason he would give me is because it had a two piece rear main.

If its a 302,dont bother, all the blocks are simalar.Do what you want with it.

If I understand bluevenom correcty, I think what he's saying is that if it's a 302 then there's no need to pull it to check it out and that you can do pretty much what you want to do with it so long as you're within the confines of any other 302 block.

Is that right Venom?

If it is a 79 then it's a non-roller block. You'll have to look around and see what a conversion costs or if it's even worth doing. There may be others here that have done the conversion and know what the cost/benefit is.
