Hello all. Noob here. I have a '95 Cobra convertible with original 302, approx. 98000 miles, 5 speed. Car is stock except for MSD distributor, wires, and ignition coil. I'm having trouble with the engine cutting out around 4,000 RPMs and up after the car warms up. I replaced the fuel filter, but that did not seem to help. While the car has been garaged winters and is in excellent condition, I have a feeling that all the sensors are original (20 years old)! Also, I don't feel like the IAC solenoid is right either. I have removed it, cleaned it, and tried to adjust it, but the part is still suspect. In any case, has anyone experienced this behavior before? I have seen a few postings here that seem similar to my experience but not exactly the same. Thanks

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

Sounds like the ignition module. I would also say the msd distributor is suspect.

Add another vote for the TFI module and PIP sensor inside the MSD distributor.

The TFI module mounted on the distributor is one of the culprits for a high speed miss on a warm engine. If the problem does not occur when the engine is cold, the TFI module is definitely suspect. You may need a special socket to remove the TFI module, but most auto parts stores will have one for $5-$7.

Be sure to use plenty of the heat sink grease on the new TFI and clean the old grease off the distributor.

X3 on the msd ignition components. You should also check for codes to rule out other issues.

MSD usually stands for MySparkDisappeared, but I will say that I chased this kind of thing for an embarassingly long time and what cured it for good was an MSD 5527 Street Fire coil.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate the help. Going to replace the ignition control module and report back.

The iac will do nothing at those rpm's so rule that out unless you are have idle issues as well, but that's a completey different animal
