Finally getting ready to carry my new 302 to a dyno. So far the shop has said they will use their headers, I don need a fuel pump, and I need a pulley setup for crank and water pump. He says he has a bell housing. This is harder than it looks.

Any other advice for a first time on an engine dyno/

I'm curious, why are you putting it on a dyno?
my friend has what we call a 'run in stand' and use it to pre lube and initial start up for break in before installation.
you will likely need flywheel, does the shop provide the intake system? Carb or efi? What about the ignition system?

Mostly because I can dyno it. I have never done it, and it seems to make sense to setup, break in and do a basic tune on an engine dyno rather than in the driveway.

Reduces full throttle applications in the street in front of the neighbors.

Maybe too much YouTube?

Sure if you are looking for what the hp /torque numbers it has, as for breaking it in I would drive it around for a few hundred miles kinda nicely, swap out the oil/filter and then put it on the dyno.

full throttle? Are you doing EFI? Basic tune will do no good as there will be differences between the dyno and the car. Just install the dang thing, pre-lube with a drill and fire that puppy up. Drive it around for about 500 miles and then take it to the dyno for full throttle tuning.
