Engine fires up then dies!!! rrrr . . . HELP!!!

Hey guys. I have a 302 cid with a motorcraft 2v carburator. Ive got about five galons of gas in the car and new fuel filter. My problem is the car will start up for about 5 seconds then dies right out. Each time I start thee car it only runs for a few seconds. Help I just dont know where to go with this problem

Id put a clear glass fuel filter on it near the carb and check the fuel. You might have fresh gas filter...but the lines could be caked full of junk. Also, if its an old tank, all the junk is settling at the bottom.

Have you checked your timing?

Does it have points ignition? Are they adjusted properly?

Does it die as soon as you let the key back to the run position? If so, no power to the coil in run, but power is there for the start position. (Different sources of power) Check the resistor wire from under the dash to the coil. You could also provide s
a jumper from the battery to the coil and see if it stays running.
