engine life span

is 80,000 miles on a 99 GT bad? at what point should i rebuild or swap engine? car was never dogged, oil change every 5k.

I will be if I get to 80K before I break or throw something. But I'll fix it when it breaks and not a second before.There is a price for pushing the envelope and it is not 37 cents

My uncle runs a taxi service, and those engines are beaten good. They have the 4.6 like yours and are good until 500,000km because my uncle gets the taxi's in for oil changes every 5,000km's. He gave me one to rebuild for fun, and the engine after 500,000km's had almost no where, but the valves failed to seal.

I think 500,000 km equals 2 billion american miles.

All depends on how much care was taken of the engine. Its as simple as that Ist hard to guess the lifespan, could be 100k or 250k.

500K is about 300K "American" miles.
