Hello All,
On Friday my car started making a noise that I'm trying to track dow and hopefully fix without too much $$. There is a front end ticking/knocking that only appears or is noticable under load and when accelerating. At idle or while cruising or very gradually accelerating it's not noticable, but push the gas a little harder and the knocking starts up and changes with engine speed. Revving in neutral or clutch disengaged did not cause the noise.
A couple weeks ago I changed cap/rotor/plugs/wires due to wear, but failed to check the timing. Yesterday I checked the timing and adjusted it. It was a little off, but not too bad. Revving engine in the driveway while under the hood, again, did not reproduce the noise.
Subsequent road test showed sound was still there.
Any ideas regarding what would cause this sound under the specific loaded/accelerating conditions?
The car:
65 A-code coupe, 3-sp manual, no power steering or brakes, Edelbrock carb and intake. Hooker headers and dual exhaust, electric fuel pump, centerforce clutch, MSD 6A and pertronix, block and heads are rebuilt replacement for stock and has ~60,000 miles.
Thanks,
Eric
