Engine Noise

In the past day or so, i've noticed a very odd sound coming from my engine bay when I give it gas, more noticably at at least 1/2 throttle. I'm pretty stumped at what it could be, but it doesn't sound very good. The best way I can describe it is that I can hear the engine working more... It's never been this loud before. Any suggestions??

Cats clogged, needs spark plugs, leaking exhaust, air filter dirty, coil pack going bad, are you down on power or using more gas?

I have no cats, I highly doubt it's an exhaust leak, filter is clean, and I don't know when the spark plugs were replaced last. I've had the car almost a year, and I know its sounds pretty well, and this just doesn't seem normal. How would bad spark plugs make it louder inside my car? BTW, the sound is much more apparent in lower gears, usually say, cruising at 2k rpms, then half throttle. :bang:

What mufflers are you running? Maybe they are burning out some and causing the extra noise?? When you get up to speed then, in a sense, you may be out running the louder noise so it's not as noticable in the upper gears.

I know my Son's and my Mustang are louder at 2k than probably anywhere in the RPM range.

Bad/weak plugs could cause a slight misfire that may cause the cylinder cycle to be off slightly and make for a louder/odd tone.

I have the stock bullitt catback. I don't think it's the mufflers, the sound sounds like its coming from right on the other side of the firewall in front of the driver's seat... I guess i'll try changing the spark plugs and see what happens. Is there a write up somewhere? Haven't done it on a mustang yet. Thanks for the help.

for plugs, just make sure the engine is cold. Do yourself a favor and buy one of those flexible plug wrenches for like 20 bucks. shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.
