Just wanted to know if there is a place to buy auto nuts and bolts for the engine bay that dont rust (if there is such a thing) or look like crap..

The bolts on here...Im tired of bolts on top looking like crap...like the ones on the alt, the ones that hold in the idler pulley and Vortech, etc.

THanks

fastenall(sp?) should have what you need.

Grade 8 should also stay nice. I replaced my valve cover bolts with 8's and my water pump/timing cover/alt. with SS ones from the hardware store.

When I re-install my lower/upper I am going to replace the stock bolts with 8's or SS. I need to hit up fastenall to see about some new upper bolts as one is kinda worn.

Doing every bolt like this would be way way nice, but prolly 500$ just in fasteners

$500??? Why would you think that the mark-up would be $500.00 when you can by an entire chrome kit for like $75 off Ebay or from Summit?? There are not that many "exposed" fasteners on an engine anyway. Sure you will spend some bucks for chrome plated bolts, but 10 bolts from Fastenal for a Harley ran around $30.00. Chrome will rust unless tended to with wax, so moisture will bead off of them. Zinc is OK, but heat tends to deteriorate the plating over time. Stainless is great for not rusting, but will fade out to the grey your describing over time. The best case scenario, is paint. You can remove the bolts, wire brush, clean with brake cleaner, line them up through cardboard with heads facing up and spray them with heat rated paint. I prefer black, and then if you blemish when you reinstall, you can easily use a touch up paint.

I dont think my engine compartment will ever be show worthy, but I had a buddy with a '73 Camaro that had EVERY bolt under the hood polished. That was also a car that was driven 500 or less miles per year and was strictly show. He said they had spent $400 on polished fasteners, and that was for every one visible when the hood was up.

I know because a local guy just did it to his Fox and spent 600$ actually. Fancy a$$ ARP fasters add up quick, and like I said in my 1st post....every bolt, not just the visible ones.
I never said cheap Ebay junk, or Chrome...alls I said was ARP.
I know RC, and I know he likes perfection only reason I recc. this, because I can not afford this, but it indeed was 600$.

I did a quick search (Summit) and added these up and was close to 400$ already

Intake
Oil Pan
Balancer
Timing Cover
Motor Mount
Starter
Pulleys
Headers

Thats not including all the other stuff the guy did like TB fastners, fuel rail, dizzy, P/S bracket, ALT bracket, Tsta housing, etc etc etc and yes he bought the best ones ARP could offer for every fastner.

So yes, welcome to the world of people who have money, some fools WILL spend 500+$ on fastners alone for the ext. of their engine so it looks cool, or just to say EVERY nut and bolt is ARP

Not me though.

Wow that wasnt even worth explaining haha

Spending $500 is what I like to call the ID I 10 T error code. In short it references an idiot. I just think that if you have that much to spend on bolts to brag about them being ARP, you should not be driving a Mustang. You should be in a GT-40 or a new Ford GT. Then brag.....
