And i keep hearing people say 30mpg with the Coyote? What are you guys smoking? They're rated at 24 in the '11 GT, and even being lighter i don't think you'd knock down 30mpg in a Fox unless you ran 2.73 gears and babied it.

You always gotta take what you read on the internet, and reduce the values by a factor of 1.2-1.3.

With my driving, my 4 banger Fusion gets between 24-26 mpg mixed. I'm SURE that in my hands, a Coyote wouldn't be knocking down 30, regardless of what some nerd achieved with his while hypermiling and drafting behind a semi truck.

For real? I did it once in my Fusion out of curiosity, and I was getting 50-60ish mpg on the highway going 70mph. I was right up on the truck's ass, though. Waaay too close to do it for any extended period of time. Comfortably, at least.

My truck consistently 1mpg worse going over the speed limit and not driving for mileage. It dosent make enough of a difference in my wallet to justify driving it nicely. It only loses 2-3mpg when i am towing my car with it too.

I also agree that it is pretty stressfull tailgaiting a rig, just basically driving blind to whats happening ahead of you.

Id take a late 60s and make a GT500 clone out of it. That way it still looks bad ass and I wouldn't be scared to drive it

Rated at 17/26 by Ford. Some of the guys over in the S197 section are seeing better than that still. And this is in a near 3,600lb S197.

My current 5.0 OHV powered Fox coupe with the stock 2:73's out back has seen a best of 27mpg babying it on the highway....and it's nowhere near as efficient an engine as the 5.0 TiVCT Coyote. Transplant that engine into a 3,000-3,200lb Fox body and near 30mpg fuel figures isn't all that unbelievable. Even with the 2.73's out back it's still an easy 12-second car. One that certainly gets better than the 15mpg you’d get out of a stroked 351W, or the 9mpg you’d be getting with a stroked big block.

I'm just skeptical of anything people tell me about what mpg they're getting. That topic is WAY worse than the butt-dyno topic. It ranks right up there with big fish stories.

Coyote for me. 400 clean n/a horsepower with perfect street manners right out of the box? Yeah, I'll take two.

408W could be done for a lot less than the other options. Parts are plentiful and good combos are making 500+HP. They Coyote would be cool but I've read that Stangnet Cruiser car thread and that's way too much work for less HP than a 408.

Not many of us have an unlimited FOX Mustang budget, if any at all.

Cheaper than a Coyote swap. With the 408 you don't have to swap over all the harnesses. Hell even the door switches and locks have to change over with the Coyote stuff if I remember correctly. Lots more work in my opinion. Not saying that its a bad thing.

There are a few unlimited projects out there. I found one in the 94-95 section. First page of this thread shows a completed car, however, the garage burns to the ground with the car inside. He builds the car back up. The beauty part about this project as he's doing everything himself. Stunning.

How would the door switches have to change? they are not connected into the factor ECU at all. That makes no sense.

you can get the motor with harness, ECU, and gas pedal for under 9000 dollars. Not cheap, but if you built a 408 right, you would have to pinch pennies to do it for that kind of money not including an ECU.

I have just about 10k into my motor and i had to get a ton of deals to come out that cheap.

if money was no object id buy a 670" proline bullet with twin 101's backed by a T5

or don burtons 600" twin blown BBF

or richard sextons screw blower motor

i can honestly say if money was not an issue id have 3000-4000 hp

Hell I don't have the budget for any of these swaps in real life, so the 408 being the "bargain" of the bunch is of no consequence.
