power valve

If it was a Holley Carb I'd say it was the Power valve on the Carb, but I don't know much about Edelbrock Carbs.
Find out if you have one on that Carb and if so it may be Kaput.
It's an in-expensive part.
When blown (at least in a Holley) they make the car run VERY rich, and bog until they get reving, and all kinds of other bad running problems.
good luck

dieseling is usually a timing issue. Have you checked your timing?

timing is at zero on the dampner.. plus the cam was set straight up..

My thinking might be the carb.. it seems to surge while driving..

I would set the timing to 10-12 degrees BTDC.

your timing should NOT be at zero. Follow jesse's advice and let us know how it goes.
