Got a chance to buy an engine out of a '93 mustang along with an engine stand and engine hoist for $800. Trying to figure out if I want to buy this one and build it, take the one in my car and sit it to the side for now. Anyone been down this road before and have some good ideas for me?

Mine is only two inches though.

Haven't seen it yet. I would redo the motor regardless. Been sitting in his garage for a good while.

If you are going to rebuild it, the engine itself is nearly worthless. If you needed a running engine because yours was ruined it would have some value.
Keep in mind better gt40p engines can be had for $500, then you can pull the heads and intake off and resell them for a few hundred.

Buying a running donor at a premium price to rebuild just isn't sensible.

I'd pay whatever the hoist and stand are worth to you, that's it.

Thanks for the good idea. Kinda the way I was leaning.

I agree.

The way I'm thinking...the hoist is worth $700 and the engine is $100. That's assuming the engine is a stock non-rebuilt 5.0 with over 100K miles on it. The $100 is for parts...and by that i mean hardward like accessory brackets, bolts, sensors and other bits.

If it's a long block or short block...worth less.

I always get a chuckle when I see ads on CL for 140K mile stock 5.0 engines for $1000 or so.

A $700 hoist damn that's pricey mine was $200. Personally I'd never spend more that $150 on a stock running motor

That's kinda what I was getting at. There was a hoist in my local CL for $200 as well.

For that hoist to be $700 is would need to be brand spanking new, and a specific model i wanted.....and make me coffee in the AM
