Hello everyone,

It's getting around that time where I get reimbursed for college from my current job and all that money is going towards the car. I would really like if you guys can give me some insight on what blocks hold what kind of power. Ballpark price would be great as well. I don't post things on here without looking first, but I didn't find anything at all.

I'd like to stick to a 302 ( prolly bored to 306) and put a turbo setup in it, also I want an engine that gives me room for growth as well if I want more HP.

Just a small list of types of blocks, their threshold, and a $ range would be great.

Thanks again for helpin' a noob out.

WEll here's what I think, everyone has an opinion on this one.
Stock block = anything over 500 is in the grey area.

plan on spending 2000+ for a properly prepaired, A4, Dart, World, or R302.
all these will support your needs. the dart has less prep work than the R302 and the A4 blocks are not made anymore (im pretty sure) so if you find a used one, its a score.
Here's a pic of beutiful stocker, cracked under load on a dyno @3500rpm 570hp

Thanks for the response,

I know this maybe a real dumb response, and may get flamed for my lack of knowledge. Is the R302 block the (sportsman block)? If so aren't those still 2 bolt mains? Moreover, can you please give me links to sites that have long blocks for those blocks as well? My father knows his stuff but I really don't want to abuse him if I can buy a long block that comes with most of what I need preassembled.

Thanks again for the reply and all that will be replying

The B50 is the "Sportsman Block" with the 2-bolt mains that is like $900 from Summit.

The R302 is the 8.200" deck (standard 302) siamese bore race block with 4-bolt mains which is $1700 from Summit. The R302 also requires a competent machine shop to line-hone it and finish the lifter bores to size.

For a site for prices, go to Summit click the "Online Store" tab, then "Engines & Components" from the list. From there, pick the make as "FORD" and then you can chose "Engine Assemblies" or "Engine Blocks" from the part section. You'll then have some pretty decent offerings at the bottom of the window.
