Regardless of what kit you buy, you are going to need a machinist / engine builder to do the machine work.

Begin by removing and disassembling the engine. This step assumes that you are motivated enough to start and finish the project. Don't do this step if you envision getting tired of the whole thing and leaving spread all over the garage until finally selling the whole mess for peanuts. This step will also help you to determine if you have the tools and hands to do this job.

Find a machinist / engine builder. Consult with them about which rebuild kit you need. If they don't know it off the top of their head, they probably have a catalog that does. You and the machinist need to agree on this portion anyway so that you both understand what is going on and parts don't have to purchased twice. You will also need to have a conversation about what you will install and what he will as part of the machining process. Many times, having the builder assemble the short block is worth a little additional money versus you trying to do it without the necessary tools.
