I have a 88 that I want to put a new engine in. I'm a novice when it comes to building an engine and what parts I need, but I have good mechanical skills. So I was wondering if there is a book out there that someone thinks might be useful for a first time engine builder.

I would think the best place to start is with the factory service manual. Also, I've seen books on amazon.com. Just search small block ford. They have some good reviews too. Good luck!

RNH PERFORMANCE Encyclopedia book set:D

HA HA ...............i just googled how to rebuild a 5.0 mustang gt books a couple different ways and got a ton of stuff

I already have the service manuals. And I know there are tons of books out there on the 5.0, but I figured there are better books than others. I just don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on books when I can just get 1 or 2. That's why I was asking if anyone could recommend a couple.

I started to read some of the threads on this subject and found some very good info, books are good but the threads hold stuff u dont always find in books some great info from 5.0 guys. One of the threads point out which books are the best.
