engine rebuild kits

since i can't exactly search for the word "kit" on here, i've gotta ask:
is there a generally well accepted auto parts maker or vendor that makes a good rebuild kit for a 289? i'm talking about pistons, connecting rods, bearings, rings, gaskets, and all that jazz. i've looked on Summit, and noticed that Federal Mogul sells kits like this for $400. there are about a million and half to choose from, so i don't know which i need. i guess the real question is which one is best for a 289, or should i just put together a kit with different pieces of my choice?

tell me how you guys have gone about rebuilding your engines and i might be able to get an idea of how to tackle this issue. thanks a ton

i was planning on rebuilding the 289, then saving up to buy a CHP 331 shortblock. now that i think of it, it'll save a ton of money if i just go with the 331 kit instead. i think i just wanted to spare the possibility of overstressing the original block by buying a new one for the stroked motor.

are these older blocks typically strong enough to handle that extra torque and all?
