I just rolled over 100,000 miles on the stang and and was wanting to upgrade my engine and figured I'd go through and improve all I could. First of all, I have been told that a 4.6 block from an F150/Explorer is much stronger than the block in my mustang. If true; what makes that so? Would I be okay to find a 4.6 block from a truck and use that so that I will have a stronger motor? Also, I was wanting to know if a 030 bore is recommend or not? How much would most shops charge to bore the block? What all would you guys recommend me doing while it's being built? I also want to upgrade the crankshaft but I'm not sure one to get. I plan on getting some stage 2 heads and camshaft. I will probably supercharge the car in a few years so I want upgrades that won't be a problem when I go down that route.

Depending on what year your car is you may already have a windsor (truck) block. If it is stronger, it probably isn't enough to matter. All 4.6 blocks are very strong including the aluminum ones, which you may want to consider to drop some weight. You can bore it 30 over but the amount of power you gain from boring it 20 or 30 over is minimal so only bore it if it needs to be, that way you have room to bore it again in ten years. The cast crank is aslo very stong and will easily take you to 500hp. You should look at forged pistons and rods, as that is the weak spots in these motor. You can get forged rototing assemblies from VT, CHP, and others.
