Learned something new. The flywheel doesn't like it too much when you don't line up the holes with the drain plugs on the torque converter.

But at least we now know what was causing the problem. We took the flywheel off of Sadie and used it (since the original one and the brand new one are all warped now), got the engine back in and mostly together again. I've got a lot going on right now so I don't know when I'll get a chance to work in it some more, but this time when we get it all together and started up, there shouldn't be any more problems.

probably damaged the front pump seal on the transmission, and could have damaged the pump itself. I hope you have good luck! The torque converter would have been wobbling around a good bit with that drain plug in a bind.

She's ALIVE!

Drove her around town some yesterday and this morning and I'll be driving her to Sedalia (about 20 miles one way) tonight and start driving her to work on Monday.

She sounds better than she ever has and goes into gear w/o any problems (I was having TONS of problems with her dieing when being put into gear before).

I still have a few other (non-car-realated) projects that I need to get finished, but once they're done, I'm going to start rebuilding Sadie's tranny and my other carb.

Good news, congrats!!!!! I could not bare to hear about you having to pull the engine even one more time. I don't think I'll pull one that many times in my entire life.

Okay, that's it. I'm gonna go put Cleo's battery on the charger so I can "bump her around" to TDC on #1 cyl tomorrow. Once that's done, the carb and distributer are coming off, draining the radiatorand pulling all the Charlie-Romeo-Alpha-Papa (ask your Dad) of the intake and faces of the heads. Carb gets dis-assembled and tossed in the cleaner bucket. If there's time, the intake might come off and the top end gets bagged duct-taped 'til my next full weekend. Otherwise I'll just tape off the carb and distrib flanges and start putting the carb back together.

After all your trials and tribulations since I last read this thread - and your car is running now- there's absolutely no excuse for my not getting the intake/lifters/pushrods replaced.

Thanks for the "kick in the butt"!

LOL. You're welcome.

She did pretty good last night. Did die twice as I was leaving, but that's because I didn't let it warm up enough. Someone had parked in front of me (it's a gravel lot so everyone kind of makes their own parking spaces) and I don't know how they got in there, but they couldn't have gotten out without backing into me so I wanted to hurry up and get out of there before they tried.

Battery is still charging...... hope it's up by tomorrow (day off 'cause I'm working Saturday and the company is screaming about my OT ). At least I can start tearing it down

Sliding a little :OT: , when you can, slide on over to "Talk" and look at the "Blonde Haired Irish Kids" thread and the slideshows in one of the last posts. Seems Emily has a twin in western Iowa. Cat's name is "Pesky", but it reminds me of pics (and stories) of Emily.

Still :OT: for bnickel and Pak: At least nobody told me to Sierra-Tango-Foxtrot-Uniform!

t-chelle16 - How is your engine running? The reason I'm asking is because I am thinking of putting a Recon engine in my 66 Mustang too. I'm looking at different engine remanufacturers and Recon seems to make a good product at a decent price so I am leaning towards that one. Thanks for posting your progress so we could follow along. You did a great job and I'm sure your Dad's proud of you. BTW - I'm in Missouri too.

My 351W is a Recon engine and I have no complaints. In August it will be 5 years that it's been in my car and I've had 0 problems with it. I beat on it pretty hard too. I would recommend it.

Thanks.

Well, I've been having problems but they weren't related to the engine itself. I think we've finally got it running pretty good so I'll let you know how it's doing in a few months.

That's great to hear. I'm not building a strip car and plan to use it mostly for cruising and car shows but I do want to step into it once in a while.

I'm glad that you have it running good now. I enjoyed following your progress on this thread and wish you the best. I've had my car apart for several months now doing similar things. I am just about ready to paint the engine compartment and then I plan on ordering my engine. The old engine is sitting on an engine stand and I can't wait to get rid of it as a core. It's actually not the original engine; it's a 289 from a 67 Fairlane that someone swapped out years ago so I am not too concerned about not having a proper date coded engine. I just want a good reliable engine to cruise around and enjoy the car with. Good luck and keep us posted.
