engine swap and cant get the damn thing to start on a dime.

I pulled the engine out of the mustang and put it in my truck. The damn thing has trouble starting every time I have to move the dist. to get it to run. IT is starting to smoke from the cables on both sides. Do I have a bad ground I have 2 grounds on there. I can get it to start but the damn thing is fighting hard like it is too tight and if I back it down it just back fires through the carb. Need help bad this is my daily driver.

Don’t know if this could be the same thing but my Escort was having a hard timing starting and would only start if I moved dist. It turned out to be a bad coil.

If your cables are smoking then they are probably shot. The heat is a byproduct of resistance and the heat then damages the cables more making the problem worse. How did the engine start when it was in your mustang? Are they the same cables?

The engine would fire up just fine in the mustang not a problem at all. I did not take the cables from the mustang and put them in the truck. I will try and find some othere cables I have and put them on to see what happenes.
