87 GT all summer when it was 90+ degrees engine temp stays nice and cool but now driving to work its 38 degrees car starts to overheat. You'd think it would be the other way around. Fluid level is good also

Needs new t-stat maybe?

Thanks

You could let the engine idle with the rad cap off and see if the coolant starts flowing to indicate t-stat opening. Could it be that you started using the heater and maybe your heater core had some air in it?
Any leaks anywhere???

Thats a good point...you have probably started using your heater. I would burp/check the system for air bubbles. Might as well take the t-stat out and check its function in a pot of hot water on the stove and a cooks thermometer. If its not doing what its supposed to then buy a nicer Mr. Gasket t-stat. good luck man

Ive never really had to burp a system but hey I understand some peoples cars are different. As long as you have enough fluid in your resivoir it should siphon out what it needs. Where do you live? Did it maybe go down to freezing last night and possible you didnt have enough coolant mixed. Could be a blockage from ice in your radiator.

Thanks for the fast replies

The car isnt leaking anything but I did use the heater this morning for the first time in a good while and when I turned the heater off the temp would creep down slowly but not much

Im in Atlanta. The temp outside was around 39 for the low but the car stays in the garage with the garage door closed. I do have a half and half mixture though in it to prepare for the fall/winter

well then, thats not the problem. Did you check your fan clutch when the car was overheating? When its overheating, pop the hood with the engine running, check that the thing is spinning really fast when you hit the throttle manually at the throttle body. That fan should start to ROAR big time with the car overheating
